It was 1999 and Alberto Feres Lama was preparing his retirement from the company in which he had worked for 25 years. At the time he was 52, but he had way too much energy left for him to retire in his house.
Alberto began to look for oportunities to reinvent himself. He found a partner and both of them decided to plant olive trees in the south of Chile. Because of the lack of knowledge they had in this area, they were advised by experts, specifically Professor Fontanasa, who was a fundamental pillar on this process.
Over time, Alberto decided to keep working on the field, but this time on his own and with much more experience. That’s how he founded Olivares Don Alberto, a company that has 120 acres of olive trees planted in separated sections depending on their variety. This allows him to treat every type of olive tree according to their specific necessities, like the watering, pruning and the optimal harvest time.
The varieties planted are Frantoio, Arbequina, Coratina, Favolosa and Empeltre. Each one of the different varieties, with their own smell and flavour, have allowed us to produce a high quality blend, which is called Albero (tree in Italian)
Our Frantoio is one of our most recognised products, thanks to it’s unique bitterness and elegant flavour. It also plays an important role in our Albero, which was recognised in 2020 by the Guia Oliva as the best olive oil in the south zone of Chile.
And the rest of our varieties, Arbequina, Coratina, Favolosa and Empeltre also have their unique characteristics that differentiates them from the rest. This only confirms that they have found in our field the quality of soil, temperature and care that they needed to grow
completely.
